Kindness is contageous

IRISH PHILOSOPHY-worry

IRISH PHILOSOPHY

There are only two things to worry about
either you are well or you are sick.
            If you are well,
then there is nothing to worry about.
            If you are sick,
there are two things to worry about.

Either you will get well or you will die.
            If you get well,
there is nothing to worry about.
            If you die,
there are two things to worry about.

Either you will go to heaven or hell.
            If you go to heaven,
there is nothing to worry about.

But if you go to hell,
you'll be so damn busy shaking hands
with your friends.
You wont have time to WORRY '!!
SO WHY WORRY

Ekadashi vrata-Krishna-Rich man-Old lady

Ekadashi vrata

"There was a beautiful story in Srimad Bhagavatam, the life story of Krishna.
There was a rich man who was devoted to Krishna. He used to observe the ekadashi vrata every month.
He would fast on ekadashi day, and the next day he would feed the pious people, the devotees of Krishna. It is considered a great punya, an act which will bring a lot of merit.
Pleased with his vrata, Krishna appeared before him one day and asked 'My son, ask me for a boon! You are doing so much wonderful work.'
The rich man said, 'If you bless me with more and more wealth, I will be happy to do this service on a large scale.'
Krishna blessed him with abundant wealth and the man was very happy.
There was another devotee of Krishna, an old lady who used to think about Krishna and meditate on Krishna all the time; she was practically living with Krishna. She was a poor lady and had only a cow as her property.
She also used to observe the ekadashi vrata, and the next day she would make a little butter from the cow's milk and share it with a few devotees of Krishna.
One day, Krishna appeared in front of her, but he did not ask her what she wants. He just ate up all her butter and disappeared. And that very day, that old lady's cow died!
Naturally all the gopikas living around Krishna asked him, 'What is this? That man is already rich, but you went and showered more wealth on him, and this poor old lady has only one cow, and you went and killed that cow and came back. What is this?'
Then Krishna said, 'See that rich man still has a lot of desires. No problem. He asked for wealth and I gave him wealth, let him do good work and enjoy and finally exhaust all his desires. Let him come to me for enlightenment when he is ready!
But this old lady has no attachment other than that one cow. It is the only attachment which is stopping her from becoming enlightened and merging into me completely. So I took away that attachment, that's all!
Now she will reach me completely. She will achieve jivanmukti, and the eternal abode of my feet.'
So when God loves you, you can never be sure what will happen!
Sometimes He gives, sometimes He takes away, you can't judge anything from outside.
And many a time, understand that He is expressing His love more strongly when He takes away something from you!
Understand that when He takes away everything else from you, He is making a strong statement that you belong to Him alone!"

Prayer-God-storm-boat

Prayer

There is a story about a sea Captain who in his retirement skippered a boat taking day-trippers to Islands.

On one trip, the boat was full of young people.

They laughed at the old captain when they saw him say a prayer before sailing out, because the day was fine and the sea was calm.

However they weren't long at sea when a storm suddenly blew up and the boat began to roll & pitch violently.

The terrified passengers came to the captain and asked him to join them in prayer.

But he replied, "I say my prayers when it's calm. When it's rough I attend to my ship."

Here is a lesson for us......

If we cannot seek God in quiet moments of our lives; we are not likely to find him when trouble strikes.

We are more likely to panic.

But if we have learnt to seek him and trust him in quiet moments, then most certainly we will find him when the going gets rough.

Discussion-airplane-man-kid

Discussion

A man was seated next to a kid in an
airplane. The man turned to him and said,
"Let's talk”.

Kid: Ok, what do we talk about?

Man (making fun of the kid): How about
nuclear power?

Kid: Very interesting topic. But let me ask you
a question... Horse, cow & deer, all eat grass.
Yet deer excretes pellets, cow flat potty and
horse clumps. Why?

Man: I don't know.

Child: Do u really feel qualified enough to
discuss nuclear issues when you dont know
shit???

The Interpretation of Ramayana-Rama,Sita,Hanuman, Laxmana,Ravana

The Interpretation of Ramayana

As a Philosophy of Life.
‘Ra’ means light, ‘Ma’ means within me, in my heart. So,
Rama means the Light Within Me.
Rama was born to Dasharath & Kousalya.
Dasharath means ‘Ten Chariots’.
The ten chariots symbolize the five sense organs & five organs of action.
Kousalya means ‘Skill’.
The skillful rider of the ten chariots can give birth to Ram..
When the ten chariots are used skillfully,
Radiance is born within.
Rama was born in Ayodhya.
Ayodhya means ‘a place where no war can happen’.
When There Is No Conflict In Our Mind, Then The Radiance Can Dawn.
The Ramayana is not just a story which happened long ago..
It has a philosophical, spiritual significance and a deep truth in it.
It is said that the Ramayana is happening in Your Own Body.
Your Soul is Rama,
Your Mind is Sita,
Your Breath or Life-Force (Prana) is Hanuman,
Your Awareness is Laxmana and
Your Ego is Ravana.
When the Mind (Sita),is stolen by the Ego (Ravana), then the Soul (Rama) gets Restless..
Now the SOUL (Rama) cannot reach the Mind (Sita) on its own..
It has to take the help of the Breath – the Prana (Hanuman) by Being In Awareness(Laxmana)
With the help of the Prana (Hanuman), & Awareness(Laxmana),
The Mind (Sita) got reunited with The Soul (Rama) and The Ego (Ravana) died/ vanished..
In reality Ramayana is an eternal phenomenon happening all the time.

Idol worship-Swami Vivekananda

Why do Hindus worship idols when God told us he is everywhere?

Once Swami Vivekananda visited King of Alwar in present day Rajasthan. The king in an attempt to mock idol worship told Swamiji, "I've no faith in idol worship. How can one worship stone, wood and metal? I believe people are in illusion and just wasting time!".
Swamiji smiled. He asked the king's assistant to take down the picture of the king that was hanging on the wall. Although confused, the assistant did so. Then Swamiji ordered him, "Spit on the picture!". The assistant was shocked and looked at both of them. Swami repeated again and again, becoming more stern each time. The king was growing angry and the assistant started trembling. Finally, he cried out, "How can I spit on this? This picture is of our beloved and respected king!".
Swamiji then told him, "The king is sitting in front of you in person. This picture is merely a paper - it does not speak, hear, think or move. But still you did not spit because you see a shadow of your king in it, Spitting on it was like spitting on the king itself." The king looked at Swamiji and bowed down, clearly understanding what he was referring to.
This is the essence of idol worshiping. God is everywhere, but people want to pray to Him, ask favors, offer food, tell stories, bathe Him, play with Him and do what they do in their lives. Creating a human-like idol creates an image of God as a companion, a guide, a friend, a protector, a giver, a fellow being and so on. An idol is just a concrete representation where they find Him. When I look into the eyes of an idol, I do not see stone or metal, but another pair of eyes looking affectionately at me, smiling

Karma-Shop owner,Villager,Butter

Karma

A small story which beautifully illustrates that what you sow, you reap. You will get the fruits as per your karma.
" Once upon a time there was a small time business man from a small village who used to sell butter in the nearby town. A big shop owner in the town was his regular customer.
The villager used to deliver every month the shop owner the required butter in 1 Kg. Blocks and in turn he used to get grocery items like sugar, pulses etc from the big shop owner.
Once the shop owner decided to weigh the butter and to his surprise every block of butter weighed 900 gms. instead of 1kg.
Next month when the villager came to supply  Butter, the shop owner was very angry at him and told to leave the shop, to this the villager replied him courteously " Sir, I am a very poor villager, I don't have enough money to even buy the required weights for weighing the butter, I usually put the 1Kg sugar you give me on one side of Weighing scale and weigh butter on another side"
This simple story very beautifully illustrates that what we give to others comes back to us.

KASHI or VARANASI-LIBERATION

KASHI or VARANASI

"Kashi was created by Lord Shiva and is an independent intelligence called Kashi Devi.
After He created Her, Kashi Devi asked a boon of Lord Shiva, Mahadeva, “Bless me so that whoever enters Kashi (Varanasi) will obtain liberation.”
Mahadeva then gave three boons:
‘First, whoever comes into Kashi and gets into the Ganga (the Ganges River) to take snaan (sacred bath), will have all their sins washed away.
Second, whoever dies in Kashi will be liberated.
And third, whoever’s body is brought and burnt in Manikarnika Ghat or Harishchandra Ghat will also be liberated.’ Kashi Devi was really happy with these three boons.
But Devi Parvati interfered and said, ‘Mahadeva, don’t you feel you made liberation very cheap and enlightenment so easy? Everyone can get it!’
Mahadeva said, ‘Don’t worry, I will take you to Kashi and show you. Come.’
Meanwhile, this boon that Mahadeva gave to Kashi Devi became very popular. In the next few days, almost the whole world had gathered to take a bath in the Ganga.
Mahadeva and Devi arrived in Kashi. Mahadeva said to Devi, ‘Now let both of us become human beings. I will lie down pretending I’m your dead husband and you sit down here acting as the widow, crying. If any person without sin touches me, I will come back to life. If somebody with sin touches me and tries to bring me back to life, they will die.’
Mahadeva lay down as a dead body and Devi sat there crying extremely loudly.
All the people who had come to take a bath in the Ganga came and asked Devi, ‘What happened? What happened? Why are you crying? Why is such a beautiful lady sitting and crying in front of such a beautiful man?’
Devi said, ‘My young husband has died. If anybody without sin touches my husband’s body, he will come back to life. But if you have done some sin and you touch him, your head will burst and you will die!’
From morning to night, millions of people took bath in the Ganga, but not a single person dared to touch this body!
Late that night, one drunkard fellow came. He also asked Devi, ‘What happened?’ Devi said, ‘If anybody without sin touches my husband, he will come back to life. But if a person with sin touches him, that person will die!’
Devi thought that this man will start running away like all the others. But that drunken fellow looked at Devi and said, ‘Wait, wait, wait …. I heard Shiva has given some boon.’ So he gets into the Ganga, takes a bath and comes out. Then he said, ‘I have done all types of sins. But now, after taking bath in the Ganga, I am free of all sins because Shiva gave this boon.’
Then he touches the dead body of the husband! Naturally, Shiva comes back to life and gives darshan, liberating him.
Then Mahadeva asks Devi, ‘Do you see now? Millions may take a bath in the Ganga, but how many of them really believe in my boon?'
Millions may visit and perform religious rituals, but how many of them understand the context of what they are doing?
So don't worry, even if I shower everyone with boons, only those who are worthy, who are already in the space of completion and feeling connection, will even be ready to receive them!'"

Meditation-Ramana Maharishi

Meditation

A young boy of 7 years old came to Ramana Maharishi and asked him , " can you explain to me what is meditation? Whenever I ask my parents they tell me that I need not bother about it now.  I will come to know when I grow up.  Ramana said , "I shall tell you,  but you sit quietly by my side." A little later someone brought a bowl containing Dosa and placed it before Ramana.  He took a small piece himself,  gave one full dosa to the boy by his side in a leaf. He told the boy, " Look here,  till i raise my finger and say "Hoon" you will go on eating and you should not finish it before I give the signal.  The moment I give the signal hoon no portion of the dosa should remain and you should stop eating. " The boy was looking with concentration on Ramana for the signal and was eating in big pieces first and later in small bits.  Suddenly the expected signal came.  The boy put the entire dosa in the mouth and stopped eating.  Ramana then said, " What you now did is the process of meditation.  You were looking at me all the time but were eating the dosa. Similarly keep your mind one pointed on God but continue with your normal duties.  " let your normal activities like walking , eating,  talking etc go on but your mind should be concentrated on god all the time.  That is Meditation.
